چکیده

A natural approach to measure the time of arrival of an atom at a spatial region is to illuminate this region with a laser and detect the first fluorescence photons produced by the excitation of the atom and subsequent decay. We investigate the actual physical content of such a measurement in terms of atomic dynamical variables, taking into account the finite width of the laser beam. Different operation regimes are identified, in particular the ones in which the quantum current density may be obtained. PACS numbers: 03.65.-w, 42.50-p, 32.80-t Time-of-arrival measurements 2

Thermal Analysis of Laser Hardening for Different Moving Patterns

Transient thermal field in laser surface hardening treatment of medium carbon steel was analyzed by employing both three-dimensional analytical model and finite element model. In finite element model the laser beam was considered as a moving plane heat flux to establish the temperature rise distribution in the work-piece, while in analytical model laser beam was considered as an internal heat s...

Measuring the deposited energy from a non-ionizing laser beam in water by digital holographic interferometry

Digital Holographic interferometry is a powerful and widely used optical technique for accurate measurement of variations in physical quantities such as density, refractive index, and etc. In this study, an experimental digital holographic interferometry setup was designed and used to measure the amount of energy changes induced by absorption of radiation from a non-ionizing infrared laser beam...

Femtosecond Resolution Bunch Arrival Time Monitor

A need for femtosecond resolution beam arrival time measurements has arisen with the transition from manypicosecond-long bunches in ring-based accelerators to a few femtosecond-long bunches in high-gain free-electron lasers. Here we present an electro-optical detection scheme that uses the signal of a beam pick-up to modulate the intensity of a femtosecond laser pulse train. By detecting the en...

Using of Broadened Asymmetric Waveguide Structure for 980nm Diode Laser

Laser diode beam divergence is the main parameter for beam shaping and fiber optic coupling. Increasing the waveguide layer thickness is the conventional method to decrease the beam divergence. In this paper, the broadened asymmetric waveguide is introduced to decrease the divergence without increasing the optical power. The asymmetric waveguide was used to shift the vertical optical field to n...

Resonant Laser Manipulation of an Atomic Beam

Theories for laser-atom interactions have been under development since the advent of laser technology. The theories have yet to be adequately integrated into kinetic flow solvers. Realizing this integration would greatly enhance the scaling of laser-species interactions beyond the realm of ultra-cold atomic physics. A representative numerical investigation was conducted using a custom collision...
